historical banner

Historical art tells us where we’ve been. Its continuing relevance lies in how it changes the way we see where we are today.

Canada’s artistic history reflects how generations of artists have interpreted landscape, place, community and everyday life.

The Donna Child Fine Art Historical Canadian Collection brings together works—from intimate studies and works on paper to paintings and silkscreen prints—that reveal the perspectives and traditions that have shaped Canadian art.

These works are more than records of the past. Their ideas remain relevant today, as contemporary artists continue to reinterpret familiar subjects through new perspectives.

A LIVING LEGACY

Canadian art history is not a closed chapter. By presenting historical works within a contemporary gallery, DCFA brings past and present into conversation—each helping us understand the other.
