Sarah Grant

Sarah Grant is  Mississauga, Ontario based ceramic artist who crafts functional yet artistically detailed bowls and intricate paper clay tiles.  Working primarily with clay, Grant blends rough and smooth textures to create ethereal, highly detailed pieces that explore an appreciation of nature.  Her work relies on natural forms to express complex narratives and emotions, often weaving hidden pictures into the design to invite closer inspection.  By merging everyday utility with otherworldly beauty,  Grant transforms organic motifs into powerful vehicles for storytelling, encouraging viewers to find deep emotional connection within daily rituals.

A recognized member of the local craft community, Grant’s work has been featured in several competitive forms.  She won Best in show twice at the Mississauga Potters Guild, where she also participated in the juried Emerg exhibition.  Regional, her work was selected for Connect Online, the juried virtual exhibition hosted by Fusion:  The Ontario Clay and Glass Association. Grant was also awarded Honorable Mention at the  Arts on the Credit 15th annual Juried fine Arts show..  Grant has been a member of the Mississauga Potters Guild for 12 years.

My work as a ceramic artist reflects my deep appreciation of nature and uses natural forms to express narrative and emotion. Each piece frames human experience through the lens of nature. Elaborate design are achieved through the use of both sgrafftio (carving) and mishima (inlay), utilizing stoneware, porcelain and paperclay. It is my hope that these objects resonate and evoke an emotional response.
