Cindi Emond is a emerging Canadian Italian artist based in Rome, Italy.

She holds a BFAH in Photography and Graphic Arts from York University, as well as a second degree in Marketing and Communications, also from York. This combined training influences her vision, encompassing both artistic and commercial perspectives.

A compelling story teller, Emond uses a visual vocabulary to tell meaningful narratives that explore human and natural histories. Through her travels around the globe, she has captured a wide range of people, cultures, and landscapes, but always returns to her adopted home of Italy, where she has lived for decades and which she knows intimately.

Her current work focuses on the resilience of remote rural communities in Central and Southern Italy facing harsh conditions, adversity and the complexity of their relationship with the land. Her environmental portraiture captures Italian heritage, the persistence of cultural traditions and national identity.

Cindi began working as a fine art photographer in 2015 and her work is showcased in corporate and private collections in Canada and Italy.

“It is not nostalgia, but pride of place that must inspire us to keep these traditions alive. I believe there is a fundamental need to protect and document the cultural arts which form the foundation of our collective historical past.”
